The gospels say that he was a scribe ("lawyer") and a Pharisee, but the man is not identified by name.

Matthew 22:34-36 - But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"

Mark 12:28 - Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?"

Mat 22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

Mat 22:35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,

Mat 22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"

In verse 34 they refers to the Sadducees, and one of them in verse 35 refers to one of the Sadducees ( a lawyer).

This is all we know about this man he was a lawyer and a Sadducee

Matthew 22:34-40 (From the NWT which uses the divine name here because Jesus was quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5) " After the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together in one group. And one of them, versed in the Law, tested him by asking: 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' He said to him: 'You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this: You must love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.'"

Which 2 commandments did Jesus say were the greatest?

Jesus Christ answers for us. When asked the question, "Which is the greatest commandment in the law?" he answered: "'You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this: 'You must love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets." (Matt. 22:35-40, NW)

Jesus was questioned many times. The following are just a few examples: * John the Baptist's disciples questioned Jesus about why Jesus and His disciples weren't fasting (Matthew 9:14). * The chief priests and elders questioned Jesus about His authority (Matthew 21:23). * The Sadducees questioned Jesus about the issue of a man's brother marrying the man's widow (Matthew 22:23-28). * A Pharisee asked Jesus about the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:36). * The Pharisees asked Jesus about healing on the Sabbath (Mathew 12:10). * Jesus' disciples asked Him why He spoke in parables (Matthew 13:10). * The Pharisees questioned Jesus on His disciples' hand washing (Matthew 15:2). * Jesus' disciples asked Him why they weren't able to drive out a certain demon (Matthew 17:19). * Pilate asked Jesus if He was King of the Jews (Mark 15:2).

What is the only commandment in the New Testament?

Jesus mentions three commandments in the NT: Mat 22:36 "Teacher," he asked, "which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Mat 22:37 Jesus answered, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' Mat 22:38 This is the greatest and the most important commandment. Mat 22:39 The second most important commandment is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' Then he gave one more: John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

What did Jesus say were the important of all the Jewish laws?

When asked this question by the religious leaders of his day, Jesus answered:" 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' What is Christianity main belief?

The main belief is Trinity; that is God (or Allah in Arabic) is the three (father, son, and holy spirit) in one and accordingly Jesus is son of God. From Islam perspective, Jesus is one of the 5 greatest prophets (Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad; peace be upon them all). Muslims believe that Jesus never claimed that he is physically son of God and that he called his followers to worship God, the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no companion, and no associate. _______________________________________________________________ Christian beliefs vary, as there are 2 biilion Christians!! Most recognize Jesus as Savior and the Son of God. A Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Jesus. When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus said " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matthew 22:37-40 NIV). So there it is from the central figure of Christianity himself! One can debate the details...

What are three questions that Jesus directly answered?

Jesus was well known for answering a question with another question or with a parable. It wasn't that he was avoiding answers, but that he wanted the asker to think about it and truly understand. However, there were a few that he directly answered. John 6:28 - 29 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." Matthew 13:10 - 11 The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. John 9:2 - 3 His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Was Jesus baptize?

yes, by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13-17) When Jesus asked John to baptize Him, John was surprised and said, "I need to be baptized by You! And you're coming to me?!" But Jesus said he had to to fulfill all righteousness. Baptism isn't necessary for salvation, but when you are saved baptism is a commandment from God.
