He died of hypothermia and freezing. His crew all perished and froze. 24 of them died with Franklin, and the rest of the crew died trying to survive.
It is now reckoned that Tuberculosis, Lead Poisoning and Scurvy along with inadequate clothing were the main causes of death amongst the expedition. This information comes from tests carried out on the remains of some of the crew. The bodies showed that Tuberculosis was present in everyone, along with scurvy and ultra high concentrations of Lead. This Lead is thought to come from two places,
A, Tins of Food badly sealed with Lead Solder,
B, The Fresh Water System installed on both ships that used Lead Pipes.
There is not really any major accomplishment for John Franklin. He was more of a major failure.
