Jonas experiences deeper emotions and questions the rules and values of his community, while his family tends to suppress their emotions and conform to the strict societal norms. As the Receiver of Memory, Jonas gains the capacity to feel love, pain, and joy more intensely, which sets him apart from his family members who are conditioned to prioritize sameness and obedience.

It is different because Jonas can't share his feelings or thoughts with anyone else since he is the receiver and so his parents can't understand what his thinking is.
