In that era, Koreans first began to trade with other countries - not Westerns, of course, but like Arabs.... and Arabs pronounced 'Koryo' as 'Korea' - not exactly 'Korea' but similar. From that time, foreigners began to call the name 'Korea' although now its name is actually 'Han-gook' in Korean.
