During his era were edited a lot of administrative codes : in common law (the Code Louis), a forests code, a marine code, a trade code and so on.

He also created a modern police to clear Paris of its criminality which was one of the biggest problem at that time. He also installed the street lights in Paris.

He made the French army the widest of Europe, and conducted several wars in Europe, the actual Canada, in Africa. He acquired regions and colonies from his victories (Alsace, Franche-Comté, Senegal, Haiti...).

He developped the ports and arsenals in the cities of Brest for the Atlantic coast and Toulon for the Mediterranean and 2 commercial ports near these cities.

Louis XIV also remodeled Paris, and all these places were built under his reign : The Vendome place, Invalides, Champs-Elysées, the Royal Bridge and others.

He also started the constructions of several fortresses on all the eastern boarders of France (Vauban's fortresses).

Have to mention Versailles of course, and its impressive systems of irrigation for the time.

At the end of his reign, the country was almost ruined but effective.
