Norman D. Cota, Brigadier General USA at Omaha Beach as the assistant commander of the US 29th Division saw that the trrops on the beach were being slaughtered. He ordered all the troops forward and gave the order to the 5th Ranger Battalion, "Rangers Lead the Way".
