Well, the name came from it being the first Mario Kart game in which two people ride one kart. One drives, the other rides on the back carrying items to throw, and they have cool special items, too. For example, if Yoshi and Birdo pick up a green or pink spotted egg, the character on the back throws it, and it acts as a red shell to home in on the kart that's in front of them, usually dropping helpful items. I did this with Birdo driving and Yoshi throwing, and it was pretty funny! If I see them get their special item, WHAM! Yoshi sends it right after the people in front of me. It's a great substitute when you don't get the red shell.
