Medusa was an Inhuman who could manipulate her long strands of red hair, which were very strong for hair. She was a royal princess, a cousin of Black Bolt, and first appeared as a slightly different character in Fantastic Four #36 (1965).

She was a very pretty girl who was so full of herself that she said she was prettier than the goddess Athena. This angered Athena so she had Medusa turned into an ugly monster with a head of snakes. Medusa was so ugly that whoever looked at her turned to stone.
