Ned Kelly was the only one who was actually captured. The rest of the gang died during a shoot out at Glenrowan.

Ned Kelly was betrayed to the police whilst holding dozens of people hostage in the Glenrowan Inn on 28 June, 1880. The Kelly gang held a shootout with police. Gang members Dan Kelly, Steve Hart and Joe Byrne were killed, and Ned was shot twenty-eight times in the legs, as his legs were unprotected by the armour. (Controversy has continued over whether Dan Kelly actually was killed, but no real evidence has ever surfaced to suggest he survived and went into hiding.)

Ned Kelly survived to stand trial, and was sentenced to death by hanging on 29 October 1880. He was hanged in Melbourne on 11 November 1880.

Ned Kelly's gang was captured as a result of the seige at Glenrowan.

Knowing the police were coming for him, following the murder of three policemen at Stringybark Creek, Ned Kelly attempted to derail a police train, thus killing the policemen on board. They tried to coerce the townspeople into assisting them, but of course the townsfolk would have nothing to do with it. So the Kelly gang rounded up the townspeople and held them hostage in the Glenrowan Inn. After some time, they decided to free some of the more 'trustworthy' townsfolk. One of the freed hostage, the schoolmaster Curnow, alerted the train as it approached.

The train was stopped before it could be derailed and a massive shootout at the Inn ensued. Joe Byrne, Steve Hart and Dan Kelly were killed, while Ned was taken captive. He was later hanged at Melbourne Gaol.
