Perseus looked at his shield of her reflection
No. Perseus had used his shield as a mirror to see where Medusa was without looking directly at her so he wouldn't turn to stone.
Hercules did not kill Medusa, Perseus did. And he did it by using the back of the Aegis, the shield of Zeus and later Athena, to see her reflection and avoid looking her in the eyes.
Safe because Perseus killed Medusa for a good reason. 1. Medusa is evil and Perseus is a hero. 2. Medusa killed a lot of men and women just by turning them into stones. 3. Medusa will be punished for being evil and Perseus will be rewarded for being a hero. Perseus is the hero who decapitated Medusa's head off her body by using his sword. Perseus is very smart and knows how to kill Medusa because he uses his shield as a reflection so that he won't look at her in the eyes just so he can see her using his shield as a mirror just by looking at it. He tricked Medusa and removed her head from her body!
He must outsmart the Graiae who guarded the cave where Medusa slept. Then he must not meet Medusa's gaze which turned everyone to stone. The shiny shield that Athena had lent him he used as a mirror when beheading Medusa.
Perseus killed Medusa by cutting off her head and Pegasus came out of her neck. Bellephron was the hero who actually rode Pegasus.
He received winged slippers from Hermes and a sword and brass shield to see the reflection of medusa in order to slay the gorgon from Athena.Athena-goddess of the hunt.Hermes-messenger of the gods.
Pegasus has a rather complex creation. The sea God Poseidon and the Gorgon Medusa had a love affair - unfortunately they 'made-out' in the temple of Athena which seriously angered the Goddess who then cursed Medusa (as she was unable to punish Poseidon). Medusa became a hideous monster of exceptional powers (able to turn men to stone with a simple glance). No Greek champion was able to kill her; many ended up stone statues in her garden. Then the youth Perseus (who happened to be one of the many illegitimate sons of Zeus) was tricked into a situation where he was obligated to kill Medusa. (Its a complex tale see link Perseus.) Seeing this as a chance to resolve a rather thorny situation Zeus, Hades, Mercury and Athena united to provide Perseus with the weapons, magical articles, and knowledge needed to kill Medusa. This was a covert operation as Medusa still had the patronage of Poseidon who was one of the big three Olympians. Perseus succeeded in cutting off Medusa's head and her blood that dripped onto the seashore created both Pegasus and Chrysaor. So you see the parentage of Pegasus is primarily Poseidon and Medusa but also includes interference from Perseus and the other Olympians. see link Pegasus.
Athens did not kill Medusa, Athens is a city in Greece. Medusa was killed by the hero 'Perseus' with the help of Athena and his brother Hermes. He killed Medusa by using a shield to see her reflection. This was because staring at Medusa would lead to being paralyzed in stone. He cut her head off and proceeded to use her as a weapon.
Medusa had a special power: whoever looked at her would turn to stone. That's why, when fighting her, Perseus didn't look at her directly, he used his shield as a mirror to see what she was doing, and that's how he managed to cut off her head.
When Perseus travels to defeat Medusa, a gorgon, he must first locate the island on which they live. To do this, he goes to the grey ones, or as they are known in the story, the Gray Women, who can see all with their one eye.
Perseus was a hero in Greek mythology tasked with slaying the Gorgon Medusa, who could turn anyone who looked at her into stone. With the help of the gods Athena and Hermes, Perseus was given a mirrored shield to avoid looking directly at Medusa. He ultimately beheaded her while she slept. Perseus later used Medusa's head as a weapon in his further adventures.
The constellation Perseus can best be seen during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere. The constellation appears to be the body of a man possibly holding a weapon or the head of Medusa.
