The Chief Justice Roger Taney majority decision of the Dred Scott case increased tensions between people on both sides of the slavery issue. However, with that said, since the decision did not alter the status quo, and it brought forth no movement to amend the US Constitution, most Americans, not interested in the slavery issue were not interested in a case that was over ten years old.
