When he was in college he was working for the school paper but got kicked out for throwing a party that didn't follow school rules. He got kicked off the paper but still sent in things he wrote under the name "Seuss" ( his middle name and mother's maiden name). It was a way to still get credit but be able to sneak his work past the school staff.
