Spain benefited in several ways

1. although columbus did not find the India he thought he HAD found. he "uncovered" the americas to the european nations. this in-turn began a great exploratory race by most european nations in order to qcquire new goods, food crops and livestock.

2. One of the main focuses of the expedition which is sometimes overlooked is the missionary aspect. Queen Isabella wanted columbus to spread Christianity on his voyages.

3. Spain grabbed hold of the atlantic trade system for quite some time and began to exploit the south american continent for mining and sugar cane production. this benefited the mother country with new income and it expanded the spanish empire
