Emperor Theodosius I made Christianity the official state religion of Rome in 381, thereby implicitly considering all citizens of the empire to be Christians, regardless of personal belief.
By an edict of 381, Theodosius declared Manichæans to be without civil rights and incapable of testamentary disposition. In the following year he condemned them to death.
Worship at pagan temples was outlawed in 391, although this was not uniformly enforced. The triumphant Christian church was encouraged to destroy and pillage pagan temples, thereby vastly enriching the church..
In 392, laws against pagans and non-Catholic Christians made their will invalid when contested by Christian heirs. Celebratory games and pagan holy days were banned and the worship of household deities was banned, even in private.

∙ 11y agoConstantine did not actually spread Christianity except in a round about way. He made the religion legal and therefore available for people to join openly. It is said that he cut the funding for the pagan temples and was financially lenient towards the Christians. After his death, however, the Bishop Eusebius, a friend of Constantine, claimed that He, Constantine, was baptized a Christian on his death bed. Regardless of the truth of this claim, the Propaganda of Constantine converting served to draw others to Christianity.

∙ 14y agoEmperor Theodosius (378-395) continued the Christian policy of persecution against the pagans. He closed their temples and made the public worship of pagan gods illegal. It was Theodosius who made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. There was no longer any protection for the temples against Christian plundering of their remaining treasures and appropriation of the temples themselves.
It was Theodosius who finally decided the Christian doctrine on the divinity of Jesus. Throughout the fourth century, Christianity had been divided between those who believed that Jesus was a creation of God and inferior to him, and those who supported the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and that Jesus was of one substance with God. Theodosius declared his support for Trinitarianism and between 380 and 394 promulgated a series of severe edicts against those who could now be regarded as heretics.

He promoted Christians to high offices in the imperial administration and arbitrated disputes between various Christian theologies. He built Christian churches, most notably, the original Basilica of St Peter's in Rome, the St John Lateran's Basilica (the city of Rome's first Cathedral and the original residence of the Popes), the Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem.
