Us President Andrew Jackson was well known for his sound fiscal policies he undertook as the US president. For example, he was the only president to pay off the Federal government's debt. This was fine with the US Senate, however, in 1863, Jackson effectively ended the US National Bank by withdrawing Federal funds for it. In a de facto manner, he basically ended the bank, although he would do so formally by not renewing its charter. With that said, the majority of Senators believed that when Jackson removed US funds from the National Bank, he performed an unconstitutional act. It was all bluster, however, for despite the Senate's objections, Jackson had his way.

The high tariff meant that Southerners had to pay more for imports. Many people thought that the tariff was unconstitutional. Anger against the tariff increased in the South. Congress passed a new tariff in 1832 that lowered the rate slightly. South Carolina was not satisfied. It passed the Nullification Act, which declared the new tariff illegal. How did Andrew Jackson anger radical republicans?

There were no Republicans during Andrew Jackson's term in office (1829 to 1827). The Republican party wouldn't be formed until the 1850's. If you mean Andrew Johnson, Lincoln's vice president and successor, he pissed them off because he wouldn't let them punish the South. Johnson was a Southern Senator from Tennessee. He was the only Senator from a confederate state to not to walk out with Jefferson Davis. Even so, he was a Southerner. He objected to giving freed slaves equal rights. He objected to confiscating plantations and redistributing the land to freed blacks and poor whites. He pardoned most of the Southern leadership. He wanted to do what Lincoln essentially wanted to do. He wanted to say all is forgiven and lets get on with life. However, he didn't have Lincoln's people skills. Johnson was a stubborn, acid tongued, vindictive, jerk who drank too much. He pissed off everyone. Also, the outrage over Lincoln's assassination meant that forgiveness was not possible.
