When Wegener's book was translated into English, French, Spanish, and Russian in 1924, he was widely ridiculed for his suggestion that the continents had moved. One of the main problems with histheorywas that he did not propose a driving mechanism for the motion of the continents.
Wegener thought the continents moved because they looked on the map as if they were once connected in a "puzzle". He envisioned that the continents moved but the outlines remained.
They were split up into plates.
The theory of continental shift is plate tectonics. Pangea was a supercontinent that broke up and drifted into the continents we have today (and are still drifting).
continents
He could not explain why the continents drifted.
Alfred wegener
wegener
they drifted together to form a single continent
he had no proof how the continents drifted or what made them drift
Alfred Wegener theorize that all the continents were once joined together in a single landmass and have since drifted apart.
They were joined together, then drifted apart to their current positions
Wegener's theory of continental drift proved the theory of Pangea (all continents as one land mass).
the magma is hot
truth is he couldn't prove it he tryed to show the scientists that the continents could have drifted but the scientists did NOT believe him

Continental drift is the idea that Wegener created, that all the continents were once a single landmass which he called Pangaea, and they have since drifted apart.
