The kingdom of Mali is located in the Upper Niger Valley. There, it provided a great gold and salt trade with land that was good to farm and raise cattle.

the niger river valley was fertileand in a good position to control trade from north africa and eurpe to the rest of africa. Also in the Niger River Valley empires were able to expand and conquer many other empires in that area. People could farm, hunt, and gather berries. The people that lived there were nomadic so they followed the food source. A group known as the Bantu became farmers. They hunted, herded, and gathered. They also learned how make weapons and tools. The Bantu were on the move with their growing empire. This is called the Bantu migration. They conquered other lands and intermarried. The Bantu culture spread through Africa very quickly and became the building block for African culture.

Niger is different from Libya and Angola because it does not have a coastline (it is landlocked and does not touch a sea or ocean). Libya is different from Niger and Angola because it is on the Mediterranean. Angola is different from Libya and Niger because it is south of the equator, and has no common border as the other two do. (A three-country comparison is a very inaccurate way to compare geography.)
The experience of the Niger Valley challenged conventional notions of civilization because they had an absence of a corresponding state structure. Unlike the cities of Egypt, China, and the Roman Empire, or Axum, these middle Niger urban centers were not encompassed within some larger imperial system. They also didn't have despotic power, widespread warfare, or deep social inequalities. They had a growing network of indigenous West African commerce. They were cities without states.
The country of Mail is located in the NE horn of Africa - it is surrrounded by the countries of Mauritania, Algeria, Guinea, and Niger.
