A Persian Empire existed in various forms from ancient times until the early twentieth century when it was renamed the Empire of Iran. The Empire of Iran was replaced with the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979. At it's greatest extent the Persian Empire under Darius the Great ruled all of modern Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
Parts of the Persian Empire copied Greek architecture and culture. Alexander the Great tried to introduce the Greek city-state model. It took superficial hold with the upper-classes, but reverted as other peoples moved in and was finally subsumed by the spread of Islamic influence.

The Persian Empire covered many countries, but was primarily based and organized in the modern state of Iran.
Islamic architecture is a term used to describe the architecture people created as an application of Islamic principles, and an application of how religion can shape buildings. in that sense Persian architecture is the interpretation of the people in the Persian region and how they shaped their building according to their own understanding to Islam. It is not purely shaped by Islam, but also influenced by the region culture and climate. Note that Persian architecture is a regional architecture, where Islamic architecture can be anywhere in the world.
