It changed America in several ways- first, it ended WW 2. The end of the war found the US as the largest, most powerful undamaged nation in the world- and the only nation (for a few years) to possess atomic weapons. The US became the first "superpower" in the world. However, rather than use that unequaled power to rule the rest of the world, the US formed the United Nations, and spent the next several years helping rebuild countries that had been devastated by WW 2, including their former enemies- Japan, Germany, and Italy. It was also a peak time of economic prosperity for the US- the wartime production systems for military equipment was converted to peacetime production of civilian goods.

How did the Americans feel after using theh atom bombs?

After using the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there were a range of emotions among Americans. Some felt relief that the war would soon be over, while others felt pride and a sense of accomplishment. However, there were also concerns and moral dilemmas about the devastation caused by the bombs and the loss of civilian lives.

How are atoms helpful to the world?

I saw this question before and I hope you mean atom bombs not just atoms. Atoms are in everything in the entire world. Atom Bombs are controversial. Someone from my generation would say there should be no atom bombs, particularly the powerful atom bombs in existence now. Others way we must have them for defense. The problem is there is a cat and mouse game that goes on. One country says I have these bombs. Another says, well we have these bombs and they are better than yours. And it goes on and on. If Josef Stalin had merely forgotten about the bombs there would have been no atom bomb arms race. Many of the bombs have been dismantled but not all of them. People fail to realize there are enough of them to destroy the entire world. So to me they are not helpful. They are the product of two little boys playing the "mine is better game and you better not get a better one."
