Candlemakers were trained much the same way any tradesperson was in 1775 - a young person would sign on as an apprentice with a candlemaker and learn the trade, and once they'd aged a bit and learned the skills necessary, and developed their own flair for the practice, they would be released from apprenticeship and go out on their own to make candles independently.
