children would be evacuated to the countryside to people that volunteered to look after them until the war was over. the children would be so much safer and happier. the volunteers were ready for what they was going to get but they were very willing.

It was scary for them. They had to leave their homes and the neighborhoods they grew up in. In most cases they left their parents. On the good side, they often were at farms with lots of fresh air and fresh food.
