The Union Forces wore dark Blue and the Confederates Grey, However there where exceptions to this. At this time people did not believe in Camouflage and wanted the enemy to see them so that they would be scared and might run away.

Civil war uniforms were mainly made from wool. The reason for the wool was to keep soldiers warm as they were fighting often in cold weather. Southern uniforms however were made from jean cloth and wool.
Confederate soldiers wore gray frocks, pants. and shoes and the Union the same, but blue. :)
