The outstanding General who led the Allies to victory in Europe in WWII, promised to get the USA and other nations out of the quagmire in Korea and bring peace and prosperity back to the nation. For the most part he succeeded, unfortunately he was not very good at bringing civil rights and equality to a divided country; segregation was all too frequent in the USA until the mid 1960's when LBJ became president.
