Among its many influences, glaciation formed the Great Lakes and Long Island (NY state).
Glacial ice sculpted the North American landscape by carving out valleys, lakes, and fjords. It also deposited sediment as it moved, creating features like moraines and drumlins. The advance and retreat of glaciers also influenced the distribution of plants and animals in the region.

They were protected in the 1880's by deed and are generally recognized as the best examples of glacial action in the U S. There are numerous areas of glacial scratching and scouring on the island as well. If you search "Kelleys Island glacial grooves" you'll find several online pictures.
I believe so: during regular glacial intervals, most of North America was totally covered in ice, known as the Laurentine ice sheet. This would have caused massive glacial erosion. This causes rivers and other factors to pale in comparison, as these were not even existent for some periods of the history, however this issue is debatable, as you can see that the Grand Canyon is no small change to the landscape, as well as other causes of erosion, which play a major part too, but I think that glaciers have played the greatest part.
