The answer has been lost- as was Boone's rifle when he was captured by Indians. At the time his rifle was made, guns were made by individual gunsmiths. It is possible it was made by one of several smiths from the Berks County PA area. Guns that are on display as "Daniel Boone's rifle" have been found to be, well, less than authentic.

That depends... Early versions of the Kentucky Long-Rifle were flintlock guns and thus required flint to ignite the powder in the flash-pan. Later versions were made to use percussion caps; while many of the older flintlocks were modified by gunsmiths and 'upgraded' to percussion caps.
Their AR-15s tend to range from $1200 - $2000. IMO, you can build yourself a better rifle for that amount.
