The Impressionists primarily painted in their studios; some of them painted sketches outside but the large paintings were done inside over a period of time. Even though they look "spontaneous" and sometimes areas were not as "finished" as other areas, they were not done out of doors. Additionally, they often used cameras as aids in remembering scenes, the quality of light, etc.
