(I THINK about 80% on this one) National loyalties became more important then the concerns of the people. but possibly competition for resources became more intense among some European nations. both of these are true.

Imperialism and militarism made the use of force to secure or defend national interests necessary, causing conflict. Nationalism on the other hand compelled citizens to support their country's cause in the war.
The military helped to make the first world war break out and the countries who were fighting felt intimidated by them and they started another war inside of the first world war which lead to militarism being on of the causes of the outbreak.
imperialism was basically taking over another country and taking natural resources and goods from the land. It led to destructive nationalism because many countries wanted the same land and soon war erupted.
International competition caused countries to go to great extents to establish themselves as forces to be reckoned with in the region. Nationalism, on the other hand, increase tensions as people from different countries sought to make sure their national interests were safeguarded.
Imperialism can cause things like war and make other countries hate you and see you as a bully.
National law has supremacy over state law.
Mobilisation. Militarism.
The rise of nationalism my not be healthy for international relations.
Militarism was expensive and the political leaders eventually had to make a justification for the necessity of it. Certainly, a Slavic Rebellion in Austria-Hungary could not be tolerated, but the Russian Empire felt it a duty to defend and protect the Slavs. France and Germany clashed in Africa and there was the issue of Alsace-Lorraine. The two conditions for peace and harmony is strength and goodwill. Militarism was strength without goodwill.
All the prospering (and not very prospering)countries wanted to build empires because colonies provided extraprofit and of course every nation wanted a portion of it. That is the basis of imperialism. Alot of countries were ready or started to get ready for a war or to defend themselves in case of an attack=militarism. Nationalism was another reason - people started to feel strong feeelings towards their countries and were prepared to defend them. The main reason why the war became a world war was that long before 1914, the prominent countries started to make alliances. They promised help to each other which meant that if a country was attacked by a common enemy the ally would run and intervene in the conflict and help the attacked.
