Technological advances increased supply and demand. There was a "boom" in the amount of workers, funds and materials needed to produce. This also affected the industry by furthering the need for more inventions to meet this production increase. Th owners of factories were wealthy and the workers were paid enough to "get by". The rate of employment skyrocketed.

It was the cause of the industrial revolution in America, it was spurred by the invention of machinery which separated the cotton from the burrs. Before that, the cotton had to be removed by hand. After the cotton remover was made, this meant that there was a greater supply of cotton and so the cotton mills which turned the cotton into thread, flourished.
