A New Testament perspective:Yes, He did.

Matthew 16:21 - From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Mark 8:31 - And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Luke 9:22 - saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day."

Jesus is the son of God, he already knew everything. He is God, one of the Three Persons in One. Before everyone is born, we are up in Heaven with God. In The Bible, it says that when we die, we will go BACK up to Heaven. When Jesus was first up there, he already knew that he was going to die for our sins. Just like back when Jesus was first born, God knew that this question was going to be answered.

Not until he was roughly thirty years old and became the Messiah [or Christ if you

prefer the Greek word]. His job was to prove to his father [God Almighty] that it was possible for humans to be born perfect and to die perfect in this world under control of the Devil. Therefore saving us from possible complete extinction.

Hi Andy

The main reason would most likely be because it was prophecied in the scriptures:

Psalm 22 - The first verse of Psalm 22 Jesus quotes whilst dying on the cross, probably Jesus is deliberately highlighting the prophecy contained in this chapter by crying out those words (it also demonstrates that Jesus was aware of the manner of his death - see also John 18: 31-32 which says Jesus had mentioned the kind of death he would suffer). Back to Psalm 22: Verses 7-8 mentions those hurling insults at him "let the Lord rescue him" etc. Verses 14 - 15 mentions his torment and thirst. Verse 16 piercing his hands and feet. Verse 17 his body on display for all to see. Verse 18 they cast lots for my clothing. This was written approximately 1,000 years before Christ's Crucifixion.

Isaiah 52/53 - 52:13 says He will be raised up/exalted but also 52:14 he will be disfigured and marred so that people would be appalled by his appearance, 52:15 he will sprinkle all the nations (in other words his death is for all nations, not just the Jewish nation). Then Isaiah 53 highlights how He would be punished for the sins of other people. Also stating that this was God's will at the end of the chapter (ie God chose to come to Earth as a human and die for our sins). Isaiah prophecied this approximately 700 years before the Crucifixion.

Zechariah 12 - this is mainly a prophecy about when Jesus will return to judge the world, and rescue Israel. But verse 10 mentions that they will "look on me, the one who they pierced" - again a reference to the type of death the messiah previously went through. Zechariah prophecied this approximately 600 years before the Crucifixion.

There is also reference in Deuteronomy 21: 22-23 - "he who is hung on a tree/pole/beam is cursed". [Paul mentions this passage in Galations 3:13 with reference to Christ's death]

Jesus himself says in Luke 9: 22-23 that he will be killed and be raised to life on the third day, and that those who want to be his disciples must deny themselves and take up their CROSS daily and follow Him (Jesus). This is quite some time before his final journey to Jerusalem and his arrest etc. Yet he clearly describes his own death, and the need for his followers to also take up their cross.

For Jesus the cross was literally a cross for crucifixion. For most Christians "taking up their cross" is symbollically giving up their lives (their own will/desires/goals) and following what God wants them to do with their life instead - which will be different for each person. Jesus gave up his life. What are we each willing to give up?

Whether you're a Christian or not, I encourage you to read more about Jesus' life in the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) - even if you've read this loads of times before - and pray to God and ask Him to reveal to you what He wants you to do with your life.

Hope this helps.

God bless you Andy!

What are two important dates in Christianity?

I believe there are a few important dates. You can choose which ones you feel are more important. * The birth of Jesus Christ (approximately 2000 ago) * The resurrection of Jesus Christ (approximately 2000 ago) * The date of Jesus' return (we will only know that date after it occurs).
