A tepee is a group of poles set up to form a cone scaffold. The scaffold is them covered with canvas or animal skins, leaving a smoke-hole at the peak of the cone. When the Lakota traveled, they simply took all of the poles down and wrapped them into a bundle. The skins were also folded for easy transport. The skins were placed on the pole bundle and then dragged by horses or people to their next destination.
