It caused the south to secede in order to keep their slavery alive .
On Nov. 9 1860 the Legislative Assembly of South Carolina saw to convene meetings to elect a Convention in order to decide what to do.
The same day, the two South Carolinian senators, Hammond and Chesnut simply quit the US Senate.
Elections to the Convention should have been taken on 8 January 1861, but the popular anger was so strong that the date was anticipated to December 6, 1860. So the convention was elected and met on Dec. 17. On Dec. 20 they approved an Ordinance declaring that the South Carolina cut off its ties with the other States and proclaiming itself Independent Republic.
The same way was followed by the "Deep South's States", which seceded:
Mississippi, on Jan.9, 1861,
Florida, on Jan. 10,1861,
Alabama, on Jan. 11, 1861,
Georgia, on Jan. 19, 1861,
Louisiana, on Jan. 26 1861,
Texas, on Feb. 1 1861.
As soon as the result was in, South Carolina seceded from the United States.
The disaffected southern states began talking about succession, and South Carolina seceded in December, a mere month after Lincoln's election, before he was even inaugurated.

Nobody really welcomed the civil war... There were things that led up to it like the slavery issue and Lincolns election. The main thing was Lincolns electoin because states in the south started to secced from the union.
Secede from the USA, one by one, starting with South Carolina.
The South thought that Lincoln would free all of the slaves, and that is what the Southern economy relied on. The election of Lincoln in 1864 also saw the election of new, mainly abolitionist members of Congress, and many Southern states had already moved toward secession from the Union.
Tornadoes affect North Carolina in much the same way the affect other states. They cause damage, destruction, and power outages on a localized scale. Because it is not as tornado-prone as other States, North Carolina does not allocate as many resources to tornado preparation.
The election of Abraham Lincoln as President.
Before his election in 1860 as the first Republican president, Lincoln had been a lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and twice an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Senate.
