They show no remorse or respect for him but instead say its typical of a
Black man to run without a plan. They see his attempted escape as proving him guilty beyond a doubt and disregard the fact he was shot seventeen times instead of just once to incapacitate him.
The interest in Tom Robinson's death in Maycomb lasts for a short period, mainly during the trial and its aftermath. As time passes, other events and issues in the town take precedence, and attention shifts away from Tom's case.
Because it's a highly racist, narrow minded town (a fictional one, btw).
In the minds of the white citizens there was no doubt he was guilty of raping and beating "one of their own" (he was convicted even though the evidence was thin and circumstantial) and his death sentence was just. That he escaped and got shot only hastened that process in their eyes.
The author says that most of the people (white people, at least) in Maycomb think that Tom's death just shows how stupid black people are. They think that Tom might have gotten off on appeal, but he was too dumb to think ahead. Here's a quote:
"To Maycomb, Tom's death was typical.
Typical of a n***** to cut and run. Typical of a n*****'s mentality to have no plan, no thought for the future, just run blind first chance he saw."
Most of the people in Maycomb county were not particularly upset by Tom's death. It was the talk of the town for 2 days and after that no one cared.
It stays the same generally, but Atticus does change a few peoples perceptions of rascism like walter cunnigham saying as he was the one person holding up the verdict for tom for so long.
they become happy because they don't like blacks and they're racist

In the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, Maycomb reacts to Tom Robinson's death with mixed emotions. Some residents are saddened and angered by the injustice of his death, while others dismiss it as inevitable due to the racial prejudices of the town. Overall, his death serves as a stark reminder of the racism and discrimination that exist in Maycomb.
she was really upset
Scout realizes the prejudice and injustice in society as she sees that Tom Robinson's death was a result of racism and hatred. She understands the harsh realities of the world and the impact of discrimination on people's lives.
Unfortunately, Tom's death wasn't a big deal, especially in the white community. People were interested for a couple of days, and they blamed Tom.Here is an excerpt that explains the feeling of the white people of Maycomb:“Maycomb was interested by the news of Tom’s death for perhaps two days; two days was enough for the information to spread through the county. “Did you hearabout?… No? Well, they say he was runnin‘ fit to beat lightnin’…” To Maycomb,Tom’s death was typical. Typical of a nigger to cut and run. Typical of a nigger’s mentality to have no plan, no thought for the future, just run blind first chance he saw."
