I have an example. The northwest coast ate salmon. It was a main resource. So native Americans that ate salmon that were most likely to be from the northwest coast region.
Food sources for Native Americans of the northwest differed from those of the Native Americans living in the west and southwest because those in the northwest had plenty of seafood. They were able to supplement the meat that they hunted, and the vegetables they grew with fish, and shellfish.

Native Americans used hunting, gathering, farming and on some occasions, raising domestic animals as food sources. Native Americans from the North and Northwest were primarily hunting and gathering societies, but also fished and in some cases were able to farm a bit if the climate permitted. On the other hand, Native Americans in the Southwest, had a more nomadic lifestyle and used hunting and gathering as their main food sources.

The environment and what could grow our survive their would have been a factor. Some natives lived in settlements and others were more migratory in respect to game animals.
While Native American of the Southwest ate foods that included small game, wild turkey, corn, and squash, the Native Americans who lived in the West had food sources like bison and deer. The tribes from the Northwest had foods, such fish, shellfish, rabbit, acorn, berries and other foods that they gathered.
Salmon
they used salmon for food yes but the NW thought that if they put the bones of the salmon back in the river that it would bring the salmon back to life and bring more with it so that their tribe could survive.
The Pacific Northwest Native Americans ate eggs. They were called the Puget Sound Indians and they ate deer, elk, eggs, oysters, shrimp, turtles, and wild berries. They were wise and built their homes where food was plentiful.
They had an endless supply of fish from the ocean, animals to hunt and fruit from the forest. During the fall, they feasted on salmon, which was enough to feed the entire family. They also had plenty of sea otter, sea lions, and whales too.
