many weapons were used and the castle walls were made of stones. There was also an inside wall to further protect the castle. The hard party was just getting in the castle never mind fighting in or outside of it. Um..... I don't really know what I'm talking about so bye now

Some catapults were used in the middle ages to try and get into Medieval Castles. The Romans had catapults. I had a hand catapult when I was a youngster.

When william the conquerer conquered england he introduced castles from france, he used them to try and control the english, as a symbol of power, somewhere safe to keep an eye on people, somewhere for prisoners, somewhere where his soldiers could retreat to if they were under attack. first wooden motte and bailey castles were built as a tempory measure, and where then developed into stone castles, which were stronger and more long lasting, as you can see they still last today.
Same as people today and try to make guests comfortable, fed, and happy.
