In The Bible, priests did not really 'earn' money for food. They received a 'tithe' or 1/10th of the produce; that's how they received their food. That's also how they received meat (animals) and other precious metals, etc

This was God's arrangement of providing for the priest's physical needs.

In the earlier years, most payments were done by bartering. Coins or 'money' is merely one medium of exchange used later in Bible times.

One example of the use of the English word 'money' is in Genesis 17:12 KJV=money; Hebrew: ke′seph= literal: "silver."
