People in Shakespeare's time were imprisoned usually for debts (we see that sort of thing happen in The Merchant of Venice and The Comedy of Errors). The way to get out of jail was to pay off the debt. The sooner you did that the better since you could not earn money in jail and you had to pay for food and all other amenities of life. It helped to have a friend buy your way out.
