scientists know the exact spot where an earthquake begins because they use a ritcher scale
THey know most of the times. They don't know it when it happpens so suddenly, etc.
Scientists know the Earth's core is made of a different material because earthquake waves pass through liquids, like the Earth's outer core, differently than they pass through solids.
S-waves and P-waves emit from the focus (epicenter) at the same time, yet one of them is faster than the other. therefore the S waves and P waves are directly proportional to each other. So all one needs is to do the math and trace the distance between the waves and there, you have found the Focus (epicenter) of the earthquake.
the first earthquake in oklahoma was in 1905, in oklahomacity. people don't know this, but that was the first earthquake in the United States.

By the way earthquake waves refract as they pass through it.
there were plates rubbing each others
The Richter scale is used to rate earthquakes, not hurricanes. The earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 was a 7.0. Haiti has been hit by many hurricanes. We would need to know which one in order to give the rating.
The Haiti Earthquake, the xi chuan one, well that's sort of all I know. I forgot what the other ones were called.
