J.K. Rowling said 'Harry' has always been her favorite boy's name, so if her daughter, Jessica, had been a son, the son would have been named Harry Rowling. I think that's a pretty name. Then she would have had to choose a different name for "Harry" in the books, because it would have been suspicious to name him after her own son. Too much publicity for a little boy. "Potter" was the surname of a family who used to live near her when she was younger and she always liked the name, so she used it.
