TET was a strategic victory for the communists, as it was shown on world wide television; and pictures didn't lie. The people of the US were led to believe that the war was nearly won, and nearly over. TET showed otherwise.

With the VC nearly annihilated, the war evolved from a guerrilla war to a more conventional war involving regular army units from North Vietnam.
