The 1790 eruption of Kilauea is considered the most violent in the recent record of eruption of Kilauea. The specific changes of the landscape are not specifically known as there are no artist interpretations or photographs from before the eruption. All that is known about the eruption comes from dating of rocks to the eruption as well as legends from the native Hawaiian people.
It is speculated that the eruption could have made the summit caldera up to 1,500 Ft. deep. Also most of the large boulders along the rim of crater drive as well as at the summit are also ejecta from that eruption.
