People of the First Nations (American Indians).
In 1822, the only Latin American nation that gained independence peacefully was Brazil. Unlike many of its neighbors, Brazil's independence from Portugal was achieved with relatively little violence, primarily due to the efforts of Prince Pedro, who declared independence and became the nation's first emperor. Independence
"gaining independence" usually prescribes a "from" in the end of it, followed by the name of country/hegemon. Historically (in Europe), I suppose first countries/nations got their independence with the collapse of Roman Empire, - more so the ones on the outskirts of Empire. So one may guess England and France, Balkan nations, as well as Middle East countries to be those among first ones to gain independence :)
