A genocide is when thousands of people are killed because of who they are, what religion they practice, and what ethnicity they belong to. Not only are they murdered, but they loose rights in the process.

Did the Allied Powers find out about The Armenian Genocide that the Ottoman Empire performed during or after World War 1?

The Allies were generally aware of the Armenian Genocide during World War I. They were not aware of its extent or ferocity, but they were aware of its occurrence. The Allies simply could not care that the Armenians were being butchered and were helpless to do anything anyway. The genocide was occurring deep within Ottoman territory, far away from the Allied-controlled beachheads at Gallipoli or the British offensives in the southern Levant.Other Central Powers were also aware of the Armenian genocide, arguably more-so since accounts of the Armenian genocide from German diplomats are the most erudite contemporaneous accounts of the events, but did not care; the Central Powers needed Ottoman support if they stood a chance of winning the war. As a result, German and Austro-Hungarian leaders officially silenced any diplomat that spoke about the genocide during World War I.

What caused the Armenian genocide of 1915?

Unkindness and discrimination were what caused Turks to murder Armenians. I had the pleasure of hosting an exchange student from Armenia, his country still hates the Turks for what they did. They got away with it and to date, they have not been held accountable for their war crimes. ----- The Armenian nationalist movement wanted to separate but as they were always minor in the region they started terrorizing. This started a civil war. Armenians started that. ____ There is a very influential lobby that denies the Armenian Holocaust. The Turks had been gleefully massacring the Armenians off and on since 1896. However, any mention of the Armenian genocide sends the modern Turkish government into a fit of blind rage. In Turkey you can be sent to prison for saying that the Ottoman Empire committed genocide. It's amazing that the Turkish government is allowed to refuse to face up to the past. The arguments used by denialists are generally very similar, whether they are denying the Nazi genocide of the Jews or the Ottoman genocide of the Armenians. Claims that the victims started it by fighting the bullies are just laughable.
