The Israelis say that the "God of the Old Testament" promised the land to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (not through the lineage of Esau, Jacob's brother-the Assyrians etc..) The Assyrians and Chaldeans wanted to get power so they can rule over the Israelites.

Assyrians needed a strong army to keep the people they conquered in control. They also needed one to conquer more people and protect their land.
There are a number of them. Many of them are even refugees in their own land. These groups are: the Palestinians, Kurds, Circassians, Assyrians, Chaldeans, and Blacks from Sub-Saharan Africa among others.
Individual Assyrians have landholdings as private citizens, but there is no independent or autonomous Assyria today.
