Best Answer

the Japanese had a firm hold on the south pacific and they had radio stations and airports on the Jima's most famously being Iwo Jima and Chi chi Jima. When the islands were taken the Japanese couldn't fly safely out of the majority of the South Pacific , restricting there influence to closer to Japan.
