because white men won a war.
They had war!
They simply took with military force. On August 27, 1664, four English frigates sailed into New Amsterdam Harbor and demanded the surrender of the Dutch colony. The Dutch governor, Peter Stuyvesant, surrendered.
The Duke of York gained control of New Netherland in 1664 when an English fleet captured the territory from the Dutch. This event led to the renaming of New Amsterdam to New York, in honor of the Duke. The English formally annexed the region with the Treaty of Breda in 1667, which recognized English control over the area.
They seized control because they kicked English butt. I honestly have no clue but at least this question is answered.
it was harbor
The Dutch
The English gained control of New Amsterdam from the Dutch in 1664 through a combination of military force and strategic maneuvering. King Charles II of England granted the territory to his brother, the Duke of York, who sent a naval fleet to capture the city. The Dutch, facing a lack of military support and internal dissent, surrendered without significant resistance. The colony was subsequently renamed New York, marking the transition from Dutch to English rule.
because they be all like YOLO4DAYZ
'from English to Dutch' is 'van Engels naar Nederlands' in dutch
They were a colony because they came and built New Amsterdam well before the English came to Plymouth. The English didn't want to control them, but wanted the location. New Amsterdam had a good natural port and good resources and THAT is what they were after from the Dutch.
