Britain supported the Confederate soldiers during the civil war. They gave them materials needed to sustain war for so long since the north had all the factories needed for supplies. The war would have ended much earlier without their help.

They sold and shipped the bulk of their cotton to English mills and thought the English would need the cotton. They calculated wrong because the mills had plenty of cotton to last awhile. So no help came.
