Green Bay Press-Gazette was created in 1866.
Earl (Curly) Lambeau and George Calhoun (sports editor for the Green Bay Press Gazette) in August of 1919. They met with a group of players in the Press Gazette newsroom to organize the team. Lambeau, who was at the time working for the Indian Packing Co., got the company to provide the funding for the team's equipment. They were initially called the Indians, but the name was eventually shortened to just the Packers.
