In 1820, a stone bridge was built over the River Thames in London to replace the earlier London Bridge. By the 1960's it was no longer able to cope with modern traffic levels and it was decided to replace it. In 1973, it was dismantled stone by stone and re-assembled at Lake Havasu City in Arizona as a tourist attraction. It is rumoured that the purchaser thought that he was buying the nearby Tower Bridge which is much more interesting but the purchaser and vendor have both denied this.
