I would have to disagree with the foregoing statement as it seems to be a biased opinion and not historically sound. I would like to refer you to a book researched and written by Raymond Friday Locke, "The Book of the Navajo".

Due to encroachment upon Native American lands, Apaches (of which the Navajos are a part) did what other tribes did before them, They responded to encroachment, family members taken into captivity and sold into slavery, and finally murder to rid the lands of Natives by Spaniards. However, the hispanic settlers could not overcome the Apache so they finally appealed to European settlers to address their duress.
