The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 contributed to a greater sense of independence and nationhood in America in numerous ways, but primarily through the immense size of the new territory that was acquired. Now stretching very nearly from coast to coast (with the disputed ownership of Oregon Country yet to be resolved) and encompassing still more resource-rich lands, the "Great American Experiment" was not only surviving; it was expanding.

I'm not sure it did. I've never read in ANY historical texts that the LP was a contributing factor to increased American nationalism. But I will give it a shot:

1. It in effect doubled the size of the United States thus making us a more formidable world power.

2. It more effectively linked western farmers and ranchers with eastern production and manufacturing

3. It ultimately led to the War of 1812 which caused the rapid spread of nationalism throughout the United States
